Summary

A promise to stay together。
An unbreakable bond。
A fierce will to survive。

From international bestselling author Heather Morris comes the breathtaking conclusion to The Tattooist of Auschwitz trilogy。

When they are girls, Cibi, Magda and Livia make a promise to their father - that they will stay together, no matter what。

Years later, at just 15 years old, Livia is ordered to Auschwitz by the Nazis。 Cibi, only 19 herself, remembers their promise and follows Livia, determined to protect her sister, or die with her。

In their hometown in Slovakia, 17-year-old Magda hides, desperate to evade the barbaric Nazi forces。 But it is not long before she is captured and condemned to Auschwitz。

In the horror of the death camp, these three beautiful sisters are reunited。 Though traumatised by their experiences, they are together。

They make another promise: that they will live。 Their fight for survival takes them from the hell of Auschwitz, to a death march across war-torn Europe and eventually home to Slovakia, now under iron Communist rule。 Determined to begin again, they embark on a voyage of renewal, to the new Jewish homeland, Israel。

Rich in vivid detail, and beautifully told, Three Sisters will break your heart, but leave you amazed and uplifted by the courage and fierce love of three sisters, whose promise to each other kept them alive。 Two of the sisters are in Israel today, surrounded by family and friends。 They have chosen Heather Morris to reimagine their story in her astonishing new novel, Three Sisters。

When I started this book, I almost started crying。 I have read quite a few books about the horrible atrocities that Jewish people had to endure during the war with Germany。 Now I had a book about three young Jewish sisters that were taken from their family to “work” for the Nazis。 My family consists of three sisters。 We aren’t Jewish but we are very close。 It was a hard read but it was a good story。 The girls made a promise to their father that they would stick together and look after each other When I started this book, I almost started crying。 I have read quite a few books about the horrible atrocities that Jewish people had to endure during the war with Germany。 Now I had a book about three young Jewish sisters that were taken from their family to “work” for the Nazis。 My family consists of three sisters。 We aren’t Jewish but we are very close。 It was a hard read but it was a good story。 The girls made a promise to their father that they would stick together and look after each other。 This wasn’t difficult until the Nazi police arrived going door to door looking for young girls to go to their work camps to work。 I’m not going into the details about what they endured but the author made sure you knew just how horrible it was but then kept the story going without it being too morbid。 I’m glad I stuck with it。。 I’m glad I got to know this family。 I will not be searching out another book written about this time period for awhile but I will be recommending this book to family and friends。 Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy for my honest review。 。。。more

I received an ARC of Three Sisters in exchange for an honest review。This is a beautifully written story of hope, bravery。 love and endurance。 At the beginning of the story, we are introduced to 3 young girls - Cibi, Magda and Livi。 It is on the eve of their father's surgery that he asks them to make a pact to always take care of each other and all 3 girls commit。 However, none of them really understood how challenging and difficult it will be to keep that commitment。 Fast forward a few years to I received an ARC of Three Sisters in exchange for an honest review。This is a beautifully written story of hope, bravery。 love and endurance。 At the beginning of the story, we are introduced to 3 young girls - Cibi, Magda and Livi。 It is on the eve of their father's surgery that he asks them to make a pact to always take care of each other and all 3 girls commit。 However, none of them really understood how challenging and difficult it will be to keep that commitment。 Fast forward a few years to WWII and Livi is forced into a concentration camp and Cibi joins her to protect and keep Livi safe。 Together the two girls face horrible conditions and situations where every day their life is in jeopardy。 Madga, due to other circumstances, is in hiding the first few years her sisters are in the concentration camp but does eventually join them。 Throughout their time together in the concentration camps, we watch them be exposed to horrific situations and having to make such difficult choices to just survive。 No matter what happens, each of the 3 girls is driven by their commitment to each other - even when giving up or death feels like a more appropriate option。 The three girls are not perfect and they face their own demons and challenges but there is such an overall strength and commitment to each other。 Their story also instills hope that with the right people by your side, you can survive the most difficult situations。 。。。more

I really had to plough my way through this book and skimmed a lot 。 The commitment and love these three sisters displayed was aspiring but their hardships seemed not as harsh as other survivors I have read about。 It was almost hard to believe the three of them survived and that Magda actually found them。 Their story is so important to them and their families but it just was a meh read for me。

Three Sisters by Heather Morris is another look at the Holocaust, from the POV of three sisters who were taken to Auschwitz/Birkenau prisons and managed to survive there for years。 From a young age, Cibi, Livi and Magda promised their father they would take care of each other and when Cibi and Livi wound up at Auschwitz, they did just that。 When Magda arrived there two years later, they all watched over each other, even as the watched the atrocities happening all around them。 How they managed to Three Sisters by Heather Morris is another look at the Holocaust, from the POV of three sisters who were taken to Auschwitz/Birkenau prisons and managed to survive there for years。 From a young age, Cibi, Livi and Magda promised their father they would take care of each other and when Cibi and Livi wound up at Auschwitz, they did just that。 When Magda arrived there two years later, they all watched over each other, even as the watched the atrocities happening all around them。 How they managed to survive the brutality and go on to live happy, productive lives and move on to help with the beginnnings of Israel after the war are a testament to the strength of these sisters and their promise to their father and each other。 These women are inspiring and there can never be enough light shed on what was done during the Holocaust, so thank you to the author for bringing their stories to the light。Thank you to the author, St。 Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

Heather Morris' book "The Tattoist of Auschwitz" was great。 I've read a lot of books about the Holocaust and that story is up with the better ones。 What Heather does, I believe, is find actual people impacted by the Holocaust, understands their story and then makes up a fictional account of the experience。 So it's more inspired by the characters experiences rather than an actual representation of them。 "The Three Sisters" is the third book of this style。 I haven't read the second。 I don't want t Heather Morris' book "The Tattoist of Auschwitz" was great。 I've read a lot of books about the Holocaust and that story is up with the better ones。 What Heather does, I believe, is find actual people impacted by the Holocaust, understands their story and then makes up a fictional account of the experience。 So it's more inspired by the characters experiences rather than an actual representation of them。 "The Three Sisters" is the third book of this style。 I haven't read the second。 I don't want to discount or discredit the experiences of the actual three sisters and their families。 Had this been non-fiction, I would've given it three stars。 It's not, so two stars。 I struggled through the book - especially the last half which takes place after the war ends and doesn't seem to lead anywhere。 The book starts with a father, clearly on his last days, telling his three young daughters that they always need to stick together and take care of each other。 What follows is, unfortunately, such a strong commitment to the literal sense of that premise, it caused me to actually roll my eyes a few times。 The fact that the story is fictional makes me wonder why the author couldn't make it more compelling。 If she isn't tied to dialogue or experiences, why not make it more interesting? The dialogue is sophmoric and unrealistic。 Honestly, for most of the book I thought the youngest daughter was autistic or on the spectrum because of the way her sisters talked to her。 She is treated (and acts) like a 6 year old, when actually she was supposed to be 15-18。 But then I realized if she were autistic she would've been killed by the Nazis。 In the end I realized it was just poor dialogue。 From a literary sense, there were no insights or experiences about the Holocaust that were new or intriguing here。 Nothing different than I've read before。 The entire point was that there were three sisters who's father told them to be together so they spent their entire life trying to physically be in the same place, oftentimes in some codependent ways。 If you want to read a great book of the Holocaust and the inhumanity of it all, this isn't it。 #netgalley #thethreesisters 。。。more
